When you look at your file in wireframe mode does the whole letter look normal? How about in your cutting panel? Is this a True Type font?
I have one font ( Babylon) that does some weird things when I try to cut it. Mostly when I try to create an outline around it.

Zoom as close as you can on the letter in question, you may find that the font is not joined.
